Avis Rental Cars requires that each customer and additional driver meet the Avis Rental Cars minimum age requirement, present a valid driver’s license and an Avis honored charge card or cash rental qualification at the time of rental.

At most Avis locations in the US, the minimum age to rent a vehicle is 25. In certain situations or at certain locations, the minimum age may be 18 or 21. In some instances a surcharge may apply for renters under age 25. At the time of rental, the renter or authorized driver may be subject to an electronic DMV check from the issuing state of the driver’s license.

Most Avis rental locations will accept cash, traveler’s checks, money orders or personal checks drawn on US banks as payment for rental charges at the end of a rental. Personal checks may be for up to the amount of the rental and require proper identification. In order to rent on a cash basis (without an Avis honored charge card) the renter must first qualify.
